Towards the origins of quantum physics within a classical system :
mesoscopic physics of droplets and walkers

Research project funded by Actions de Recherche Concertées (ARC)

At the university of Liège, we are investigating, both theoretically and experimentally, the dynamics of droplets that are periodically bouncing on the surface of vibrated liquids. In recent experiments, such droplets have displayed a number of surprising analogies with quantum particles, including tunneling and double-slit interference. Those droplets can therefore be considered as a classical manifestation of quantum wave-particle duality in the spirit of Bohm's interpretation of quantum mechanics. In the framework of this project, we want to explore this analogy in further detail, with particular emphasis on complex dynamics (many-particle systems, complex scattering geometries).

Duration of the project : Oct 2012 - Oct 2017
